Dr Neels graduated with a degree in medicine from the University of the Free State, South Africa in 1997 before relocating to Australia in 2003. He commenced specialist training as a Sports and Exercise Physician at the Brisbane Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, and subsequently at Olympic Park Sports Medicine Centre in Melbourne.

Completing his fellowship as a Sports and Exercise Physician in 2008, Dr Neels went on to develop a keen interest in chronic musculoskeletal pain conditions especially chronic spinal, groin and joint pain. Sub-specialising in interventional pain management, Dr Neels completed all the modules of the Spine Intervention Society and was awarded a fellowship from the World Institute of Pain as a Fellow of Interventional Pain Proceduralists.

With the belief that restoration of movement is key to treating chronic pain conditions, Dr Neels has treated numerous chronic musculoskeletal conditions over the past ten years. Making accurate diagnoses and providing management plans which allow patients to return to a better life, Dr Neels performs all diagnostic and therapeutic pain interventions for chronic pain conditions, including neuromodulation to manage chronic neuropathic pain. Additionally, he provides assessment and treatment of acute pain presentations, specifically early epidural interventions for acute radicular pain.
